On June 26-27, 2019, the first monitoring(part of the project) of marine litter along the Bulgarian coast was carried out within the framework of the project “Innovative techniques and methods for reducing the marine litter in the Black sea coastal areas” – BSB 552.

Team of the Naval Academy “N. Y. Vaptsarov “and the municipality of Burgas visited and monitored unguarded and wild beaches on the Black Sea coast, namely: a beach north of Bourgas saltworks, Vromos beach and Alepu beach, south of Duni.

The monitoring of marine waste is of utmost importance for the protection of the environment. It takes place once during each season, the collected waste being classified and described in protocols. It is then transported for recycling or to a landfill, depending on its type and condition.

The first monitoring campaign of the project in Bulgaria was very successful. A large amount of waste was collected and classified, and after the data processing and analysis, specific quantities of plastic, glass, metal, rubber and other types of waste would be

known. The participants in the monitoring were over 50, most of them students from the Naval academy.
