On June 26-27, 2019 within the project: “Innovative Techniques and Methods for Reducing Marine Litter in the Black Sea Coastal Areas”, priority 2.2. “Awareness Raising and Joint Actions for Reducing River and Marine Litter”, Joint Operational Programme “Black Sea Basin 2014-2020” – was conducted the first campaign for monitoring of marine litter along the coast of Bulgaria..

Teams of Higher Naval School “N. J. Vaptsarov ” and the Municipality of Burgas monitored unguarded and wild beaches on the Black Sea coast, namely: north of Burgas, Solnitcite beach, Vromos beach and Aleppo beach, south of Duni.

Monitoring of the marine litter is crucial for environmental protection. It is held once a season, and the collected waste is classified and described in protocols. They are then transported for recycling or disposal, depending on their type and condition.

We can call the first monitoring campaign very successful. A large amount of garbage was collected and classified, and after the data processing and analysis, specific quantities of plastic, glass, metal, rubber and other types of waste will be clear. The participants in the monitoring were over 50, most of them cadets and students from the Higher Naval School “N. J. Vaptsarov “.
