On April 5, 2019, a forum was held in Flora Bourgas to discuss successful new methods and practices for achieving clean water in the World Ocean. The event was opened by Ms. Ivelina Vassileva, Chairman of the Commission for Environment and Water in the Parliament of Bulgaria, and Chanka Koralska, Deputy Mayor of Burgas Municipality.
Special guest of the event was Assoc. Prof. Jenna Djambek of the United States, who is a researcher at the University of Georgia. She shared shocking facts about the level of water pollution in the World Ocean with plastic. It is estimated that a truck load of waste is pouring into the waters of the World Ocean each minute. Associate Professor Jambek is a co-author of the Marine Debris Tracker – a mobile application, which locates marine litter into the seawater.
Within the framework of the event the objectives and activities of the project “Innovative techniques and methods for reducing the marine litter in the Black Sea coastal areas ” and its contribution to improving the condition of the Black Sea were presented.
